This acclaimed dramatised documentary reveals a very different version of the events of the third crusade.

For centuries, England has gloried in the epic legend of Richard The Lionheart and his struggle to save Christendom’s holiest city – Jerusalem – from the clutches of its Muslim conqueror Saladin.

This dramatised documentary sheds new light on the Third Crusade – events that are still relevant today. In 1187, a Muslim army battered down the gates of Jerusalem and seized the city from its Christian rulers. The fight that would follow created two of history’s greatest warriors: Richard the Lionheart, King of England, and Saladin, leader of the Arab world. Fought over eighteen months throughout the Holy Land, the Third Crusade defined religion’s most famous warriors Richard and Saladin.

Filmed on location in the Middle East and drawing on the original Muslim and Christian eyewitness accounts and the latest research carried out by experts from both East and West, this feature-length drama-documentary challenges the popular view of both Richard and Saladin, re-assessing their relationship and re-evaluating their war.
