David Attenborough’s Conquest of the Skies VR

Explore the astonishing 300-million-year dynasty of flight
Today, over 100 billion creatures fly through the air: from nectar-drinking hummingbirds to bizarre, winged lizards. Human beings have always been fascinated by the act of flight, and it is only now in the 21st century that we can truly observe the cumulation of over 300 million years of evolution.
Informed by the latest paleontological breakthroughs, this three-part immersive series lets you marvel at an incredible variety of aerodynamic forms as you discover the 320-million-year dynasty of flight in stunning 3D 8K 60fps Virtual Reality, with ambisonic audio.
Over three episodes, learn how insects, reptiles and birds unshackled themselves from the grips of gravity and took to the skies, with natural history legend, David Attenborough, as your guide.
“One of the most striking things about Conquest of the Skies is the incredible amount of detail we can
see in subjects as small as dragonflies and hummingbirds. It’s a testament to the team that they were
able to adapt that footage and make it feel VR native.”

Members of the public were invited to experience the evolution of flight first hand by exploring a pop-up located in the centre heart of Westfield in White City, West London.
The experience allowed visitors to interact with the creatures and learn more about the evolution of flight. As well as experiencing it by VR headset, visitors were able to view a specialist immersive cut, shown within bespoke dome.
The experience also gave visitors the opportunity to interact with these flying creatures in Augmented Reality via their phones. These Spark AR filters let users marvel at the speed and scale of dinosaurs and hummingbirds and learn more about the magical evolution of flight.
